About the artist

Thomas Franklin, or Tom, to his friends, is a Melbourne based visual artist studying a Bachelor of music performance at The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, majoring in classical piano.

Despite his primary focus being on music, Tom has always been an avid painter, drawer and photographer, with a particular passion for acrylic on canvas painting. By tapping into various creative disciplines, Tom has found himself at the intersection of many different teachings, views and interpretations of what being a creative person means, allowing him to facilitate a deeper connection to visual art and the wider human experience.

Taking inspiration from an eclectic array of different artists, Tom has been influenced by the works of expressionist and post impressionist painters such as Edvard Munch and Van Gough, as well as more contemporary artists like Shaun Tan. Through these influences, Tom aims to capture themes of nature, emotions, existentialism, queer identity, human experience and mental illness in his own visual language.
